A fire broke out at a waste recycling company at 8 Tuas View Circuit on Tuesday morning (Jan 1).

Stomper Kochu contributed a video showing thick black smoke emitting from the building, which he filmed from the Keppel Shipyard in Tuas at around 10am.

In a statement on Facebook, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 9.40am.

"Upon arrival, the fire, which involved plastic waste and tyres, was well alight," added the SCDF, which deployed resources around the affected area to contain the fire.

Stomper Kochu said at 10.45am that the fire looked like it had "subsided".

The SCDF later shared in an update at 1.11pm that the fire was extinguished within two hours.

"A total of 13 emergency vehicles and about 55 firefighters were deployed," it said.

"At the height of the operations, eight water jets, including the application of foam and an unmanned firefighting machine, were used to bring the fire under control."

There were no reported injuries.

Damping down operations, which refer to the application of water to wet burnt surfaces, are ongoing. This is to prevent any potential rekindle of a fire from the hot burnt surfaces.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
