Man rushes to brother's home after no one answers phone -- and finds him dead

A 70-year-old man was found dead in his home at Block 115 Jalan Bukit Merah on Dec 4.

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at the block at about 8pm.

The elderly man was found lying motionless in a residential unit and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.

A source told Shin Min Daily News that he noticed six police cars and a black police van at the scene at around 10pm.

He recounted: "I saw multiple police officers entering and exiting one of the units on the sixth floor. They had also cordoned off the elevator."

The deceased's brother, 67-year-old Mr Jiang, said he had called his brother at about 6pm but no one answered.

"I rushed to my brother's house and arrived at about 7pm," he added. "I found him lying motionless on the ground, so I immediately called the police and they came within 15 minutes."

Mr Jiang said his brother has a cheerful personality and had resided in the flat for at least 30 years, adding: "He wasn't ill, but had surgery on his liver before."

There was a pool of blood in the living room, reported Shin Min. The blood had turned brown but there was no odour.

Police investigations are ongoing.
