Man arrested after splashing Bedok unit with yellow paint and threatening to burn resident's home

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the case on Mar 26 at 12.35am.

A residential unit at Bedok North Street 2 was found splashed with yellow paint and a debtor's note was placed on its gate.

The man was identified and arrested on the same day.

Two debtor's notes, two cans of paint and one mobile phone were seized as case exhibits.

The notes demanded money and threatened to burn the resident's home.

The man will be charged in court on Mar 28 under the Moneylenders Act.

Those found guilty of loanshark harassment can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, jailed for up to five years, and caned up to six strokes.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way.
