Rescue workers took more than one hour to extricate the driver from the wreckage before he was rushed to a hospital. The other passengers remained unhurt.

An investigation revealed that the elephant had broken loose from its shelter and was walking on the Chiang Mai-Lampang Road when the tragedy occurred.

Stomper Spencer shared with Stomp a dramatic video of the accident and said he had received it from a friend in Malaysia via WhatsApp.
