Door splashed with paint and gate secured with bicycle lock at 2 Yishun flats, man arrested

A 21-year-old man was arrested for two cases of loanshark harassment in Yishun.

The police were alerted on March 17 to the cases at Yishun Street 11 and Yishun Avenue, where the main door and gate of the flats were splashed with red and black paint.

The gates were also secured with a bicycle lock.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on March 19.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was allegedly also involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

He was charged in court on March 21 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000 with an imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
