Elderly man with dementia tells domestic helper to turn around so he can pee, goes missing for 5 days

An elderly man suffering from dementia went missing for 5 days after telling his domestic helper that he ended to pee and asked her to turn around.

The incident happened last Saturday (Oct 7), and the 79-year-old victim, Mr Han, has been found thanks to the help from a female netizen, reports Lianhe Wanbao

According to Mr Han’s daughter, Ms Yu, 51, her father was found at the void deck of Block 117 Whampoa Heights on Friday (Oct 12) at around 1am.

She said:

“A netizen posted on Facebook about a semi-naked elderly man playing with soft drink cans near a fruit stall and was reprimanded by a staffer.

“We saw the post and went over to Whampoa to search for my father.

Ms Yu and her companions started from Whampoa Drive and fanned out until they reached Whampoa Heights, where they found her other sleeping on the ground.

She added:

“It had been raining these past few days, and he (Mr Han) was shivering on the floor.

“My heart broke when I saw this.

“There was also a wound on his forehead.

“He had a look of surprise on his face when he saw us.

“We attempted to help him up, but he looked like he was in pain.

“He was too weak to even sit up.”

Ms Yu put a jacket over her father and called for an ambulance.

Mr Han was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was diagnosed with a lung infection and had to be warded.

Ms Yu said that although her father was on medication, his dementia has been worsening.

Said the worried daughter:

“We don’t know what we can do.

“We’re currently considering sending him to a nursing home, but are worried that he will run away.”
