Armed with scissors, man allegedly robbed victim of $5k cash at Jalan Selamat

A 28-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly robbed someone of $5,000 while armed with a pair of scissors.

The police said they were alerted to the case of armed robbery with hurt along Jalan Selamat on May 2, at around 4.35am.

The man had allegedly demanded for the victim to hand over cash amounting to $5,000, police added.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Bedok Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him within 16 hours of the report.

Cash of $3,400 was subsequently recovered.

The man will be charged in court on May 3 with the offence of armed robbery with hurt, which carries a jail term of between five and 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The police said they will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law.

When confronted with a robbery, members of the public are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call the police as soon as possible.
