2 workers killed in accident involving van and lorry along Mandai Rd

Two workers died in a horrific accident involving a van and a lorry along Mandai Road yesterday (Nov 3) at 4.38pm. 

The incident was recorded on a dashboard camera on a passing vehicle and uploaded by a Facebook user, KeroroJackie Yap.

Footage from the scene showed the two stationary vehicles - a black van and a lorry on the leftmost lane, which had been fenced off. 

The front of the lorry was visibly damaged. 

Officers from the Traffic Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were present at the scene.

In response to Stomp queries, a Police spokesman said:

“On Nov 3, 2017, at 4.38pm, the Police were alerted to an accident involving a lorry and a van along Mandai Road towards Mandai Avenue. 

“A 29-year-old male van driver and a 25-year-old male lorry passenger were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

“Police investigations are ongoing.”

According to The Straits Times, the lorry passenger had alighted from the lorry, along with another passenger to help direct the lorry driver who was reversing.

The van subsequently crashed into the lorry from the back. 

An SCDF spokesman said the SCDF was alerted to the accident at 4.40pm, and two men in their 20s were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
