Guilty: British man who beat Chinese GF to death with steel rod after thinking she cheated

A 24-year-old man from Cardiff, Wales who beat his Chinese girlfriend to death after an argument on Aug 19, 2016 has been found guilty of murder.

It was earlier reported that Bi Xixi, also 24, had been found with 41 injuries, including fractured ribs, a broken jaw and severe bruising over at least a third of her body area.

In what was called a "vicious, sustained and prolonged attack", Jordan Matthews, who is a black belt in karate, had beaten his girlfriend, who was only about 152cm and 44kg, with a steel rod.

The victim then went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital after Matthews dialled emergency services, but died the following day.

According to Shanghaiist, Matthews told police that the fatal dispute, sparked off after he believed that she had been cheating on him, was merely a "little hiccup" in their 16-month relationship. He also said that he could not believe what he had done.

His manslaughter plea was rejected by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court after a week-long trial.

Reports of an abusive relationship between Bi and Matthews alleged that he would force her to skip classes and hit her.

Friends added that she would use heavy makeup to cover her bruises.

In addition, Matthews apparently sent her texts calling her a "worthless piece of shit" and saying, "I have to hit you repeatedly in the head while screaming at you."

Bi is said to be the one who paid the rent and bills for their apartment, as well as bought her boyfriend clothes, a trip abroad and even a car.

She had grown up in Nanjing, China before moving to the United Kingdom at the age of 15 to study.

A brilliant student who spoke four languages, she had been working on her master's degree in international business at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
