A 42-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit goods during a raid last Thursday (Apr 14).
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department had conducted enforcement operations at a street market along Clementi Avenue 3 and a residential unit along Ang Mo Kio Street 51.
During the operation, more than 2,400 pieces of trademark-infringing apparel, with an estimated street value of about $62,000, were seized.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Under the Trade Marks Act 1998, the offence of selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trade marks carries a fine of up to $100,000, an imprisonment term of up to five years, or both.
In a statement on Monday (Apr 18), the police said they take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringement and reminded the public that the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences.
They added: "The police will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers."
