Motorcyclist uses phone while riding one-handed along TPE, pillion rider has no helmet

A motorcyclist was caught on video riding his motorcycle one-handed while using his phone along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) on Apr 4.

A video of the incident was shared on ROADS.sg's and SG Road Vigilante's Facebook pages and has garnered 154,000 and 72,000 views respectively.

In the video taken by another pillion rider, the motorcyclist is seen holding a phone with his left hand and only his right hand on the motorcycle.

When the pillion rider is called out for not wearing a helmet, she quickly hides her face after realising she is being recorded.

Netizens commenting on the video observed that the motorcycle has a Malaysia-registered licence plate.

Under the Road Traffic Act, all motorcyclists and pillion riders are required to wear an approved helmet.

Failure to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle carries a fine of up to $1,000 and/or up to three months' jail.

Repeat offenders could be fined up to $2,000 and/or face up to six months' jail.
