A Korea-bound Boeing 777 aircraft landed safely early Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila after encountering problems mid-flight.

According to a report from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Korean Air Flight 644 from Singapore immediately radioed the Manila control tower for an emergency landing after smoke started filling its cabin at about 1.30am.

MIAA immediately deployed firetrucks and medical teams to await the aircraft which was able to land and unload its 285 passengers safely.

Korean Air crew immediately inspected the aircraft and declared it safe to continue the flight at 4am although the source of the smoke was not determined.

The aircraft, with its 285 passengers, resumed its flight to Incheon taking off from the Naia past 5am.
