Holy crab! Local restaurant treats you to 2kg of crab -- if you can finish it in half an hour

A seafood restaurant in Yio Chu Kang has issued a new challenge to customers: Polish off 2kg of crab and six buns within half an hour, and the bill will be forfeited.

The restaurant, situated at a cross junction between Yio Chu Kang Road and Thomson Road, has been in business for more than 30 years, reports Lianhe Wanbao.

The restaurant owner’s son, who organised the new challenge told reporters that he had thought of organising the event as he felt that the chilli crab, although an iconic food in Singapore, has taken a back seat in recent years as locals flock over to Michelin star restaurants.

Worse, the dish was left out of the recommended list of local food compiled by a local university recently.

The 27-year-old restaurant consultant added that by doing this, he hopes that the chilli crab will once again claim its rightful seat on the list of Singapore heritage food.

The challenge will run till June 2017, and anyone who attempts but fails the challenge will have to pay $88.

Anyone can sign up at the restaurant’s website, but only three challengers are allowed each day.

Do you have the stomach for it?
