Brazen thief smashes security cameras, takes recorded footage, before stealing $100K of goods from AMK handphone store

A handphone shop in Ang Mo Kio was broken into by a thief, who smashed six surveillance camera before stealing the recorded footage, and made off with almost $100K of items. 

The incident happened last Thursday (May 11) at a store in Block 710A Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, reports Shin Min Daily News via Lianhe Zaobao

The 39-year-old store owner told reporters that he had been running the store for four years now, and was shocked to discover that the locks on his glass doors had been destroyed, just before operational hours on the noon of Thursday.

Upon investigation, he realised that 80 phones, $20,000 in cash and some accessories were stolen.

He estimated his losses to amount to $100,000. 

Said the owner in dismay:

“I had installed CCTVs to prevent such thefts.

“Of the six installed, one was stolen, while the rest had their wires cut.

“Even the hard disk containing the recorded footage was taken.”

With regard to the damage, the owner said that he would require $20,000 to repair the damaged infrastructure before he can resume operations. 

The case is currently under investigation.
