The Stomp Team was present at the event to see the MMA athletes stare down each other before their bouts at the Singapore Indoor Stadium tonight.
Facing each other for the last time before they step inside the ONE Championship cage on Friday night were main event combatants ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee and challenger Istela Nunes. Also in attendance were ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren and co-main event challenger Agilan Thani.
Angela Lee, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, stated:
“It is always such an amazing feeling to be able to perform in front of my fans in Singapore. It is an honour. I promised that I would stay as active as I can this year, and this is my second fight already in just a few months. I live for challenges like these and I cannot wait to step inside the cage and to do what I love to do."
When asked about her Brazilian opponent Istela Nunes, Singapore's MMA darling issued a fiery reply:
"I’m more than confident going into this fight like I am with each of my fights. I’m ready for Istela, she’s not welcome here. I’m going to defend my turf, my home.”
24-year-old Istela Nunes, ONE world title challenger, told the crowd at Clarke Quay that she was not daunted by Angela.
“I have been preparing for this moment all my life. This is my opportunity to realize a dream I have had since I started in this sport. It’s going to be a tough fight and I am ready for the best Angela Lee ever. I will do my best to claim victory and bring the title back home to Brazil.”
Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, said:
“Our amazing ONE Championship athletes are ready to take the global stage this Friday night. It’s going to be another awesome showcase of authentic martial arts action as ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee returns home to Singapore to defend her title against a young, hungry warrior in Istela Nunes.
"In addition, one of the best fighters in the world bar none, Ben Askren, is ready to accept the challenge from the pride of Malaysia -- the talented Agilan Thani.”
