75-year-old man left lying in pool of blood after getting knocked down by car at Lorong Chuan

A 75-year-old man was injured in an accident along Lorong Chuan on Wednesday (Feb 22).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at about 2pm to the accident just outside a petrol station on Lorong Chuan.

The 75-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and sustained leg injuries. He was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Video footage of the incident showed blood pooling on the road around the man as emergency responders tended to him.

A passer-by held an umbrella over the man to shield him from the sun.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Accidents involving elderly pedestrians went up by 19.6 per cent in 2016. There were 268 cases reported, up from 224 in 2015.

The number of elderly pedestrians dying in accidents also rose from 23 in 2015 to 28 last year.
