Yishun and Woodlands premises raided for illegal betting activities, 11 people investigated

Eleven people are being investigated for their suspected involvement in illegal betting activities after police raided various premises in Yishun and Woodlands on Oct 5.

A 65-year-old man was allegedly found to have acted as a gambling service provider to nine other people, aged between 41 and 69, at a commercial unit along Yishun Ring Road.

A 46-year-old woman was found gambling remotely with an unlicensed gambling service provider at an industrial office along Woodlands Link.

About $3,085 in cash, five mobile phones and betting paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

Any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
