A centralised rubbish chute caught fire at Block 305D Anchorvale Link in Sengkang on Wednesday afternoon (Sep 19).

Stomper Chockulai, who was at the scene at around 1.15pm, said two workers helped to extinguish the fire and praised them for a job well done.

He told Stomp: "I was walking home along Anchorvale Link when I was alerted to a pungent smell and saw a dustbin burning up in flames.

"Two policemen and firefighters arrived at the scene. Workers nearby also helped to put out the fire. Good job, everyone!

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to a fire incident involving a centralised rubbish chute at 1.10pm.

"The fire involved the contents of a rubbish bin and was extinguished by the SCDF using a hose reel," added a spokesman.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Stomper quipped: "Seems like the recent hot weather isn't just causing discomfort to people but burning up bins as well."
