Woman calls police about 'fight' involving 15 people at mosque -- which did not happen

A 50-year-old woman was arrested for falsely reporting that a fight had broken out at Masjid Al-Abdul Razak in Kembangan.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a fight involving 15 people at a mosque located along Jalan Ismail on May 24 at about 1.20pm.

Following the call, officers from Bedok Police Division responded to the incident and established there was no fight at the mosque.

Further investigations revealed that the caller had provided false information by claiming that a fight had taken place at the mosque, the statement said.

The identity of the caller was established and she was arrested within 24 hours of making the call.

Anyone convicted for transmitting a false message under the Telecommunications Act may be fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to three years, or both.

Police investigations are ongoing.
