Woman "bashed up" and robbed outside Waterway Cascadia flat, 20-year-old man arrested

A 53-year-old woman was left injured after getting beaten up and robbed outside her flat at Block 315A Punggol Way on Thursday afternoon (Oct 18).

The police said in a statement that a 20-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the case of robbery with hurt.

A netizen had detailed the incident in a Facebook post about how the Waterway Cascadia resident was robbed and beaten up by a man "just right outside her unit's door step".

Photos accompanying the post show a woman sitting on a wheelchair with a bandage on the left side of her head. Blood can also be seen on her face, hands and jeans.

The post, which has since been taken down, also cautioned residents to keep a lookout for "any strangers" in the estate and alert the police if they noticed any "suspicious characters".

Police said they received a report at 2pm, about how a woman was assaulted by an unknown man who had attempted to rob her after she exited from the lift.

"The man allegedly only managed to make away with a set of keys," they added.

Through follow up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him along Yishun Avenue 11 at 5.45pm on the same day.

The man will be charged in court on Saturday (Oct 20) with robbery with hurt.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of five to 20 years with at least 12 strokes of caning.
