What happens when S'pore's new President Halimah Yacob leaves her Yishun flat

Madam Halimah Yacob was sworn in as Singapore's eighth president at the Istana's State Room yesterday (Sep 14).

The 63-year-old marked history by being Singapore's first female president but despite her elevated status, said she would not be moving out of her family home at Yishun Avenue 4.

"It is a very nice, comfortable place, and I have been living there for many years," she said.

According to The Straits Times. her jumbo flat comprises of two adjacent five- and four-room flats with the dividing wall between them knocked down.

She and her husband Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee bought the flat more than 20 years ago and it has been described as being "as huge as a penthouse".

A video circulating online recently shows what happens when President Halimah leaves her beloved home.

She is first escorted to her designated vehicle, a white Mercedes Benz, by security personnel.

There are also two other continental cars and four police motorcycles in the carpark to usher her out.

It can also be noted how some parking lots in the carpark now have red signs stating that they are reserved for police vehicles.

It is unclear when the video was taken.
