Huat ah!

Lion and dragon dancers accompanied 100 volunteers distributing goodies, walking aids and other essentials to about 400 elderly residents for Chinese New Year at North Bridge Road.

Also outside the Peace-Connect Senior Activity Centre at Block 8 on Jan 14 was ice-cream man Uncle Jimmy, spreading his cool brand of sweet joy.

There was a flower car too.

Stomper Sharen, who co-organised the event, said: "We brought the CNY mood to the elderly there as we understand they have difficulty walking and travelling."

Twenty quad walking sticks, 20 walking frames and 20 wheelchairs were on hand for distribution along with 600 anti-slip carpets, 280 bed sheets, 250 blankets and 1,100 masks.

Also being given out were 250 sets of mandarin oranges, 100 packets of fried carrot cake and, of course, Uncle Jimmy's traditional ice cream.

The Stomper said: "The seniors mentioned that after so long – nearly three years – they felt like they were really celebrating Chinese New Year.

"They really appreciated the effort and work done to make them feel that they are still remembered by society. Because of the Covid pandemic, they had not had any CNY celebrations."

The volunteers included teens from the Pertapis Centre for Women & Girls.
