Footage of a large rat scurrying across a kitchen of popular restaurant chain Din Tai Fung did not happen in Singapore.

Several Stompers shared the viral video with Stomp and speculated if it might have been taken at a local Din Tai Fung outlet.

However, according to Australian media, this occurred at the popular restaurant chain's Westfield Sydney outlet.

In the video, the rodent is seen crawling along a kitchen counter near some bamboo steamers and a man is heard saying: "You don't see the rat?"

It is unclear when this happened but the video was posted on YouTube on Wednesday (Jan 30).

Din Tai Fung, famous for its dumplings, has since issued a statement regarding the incident.

"Din Tai Fung has in place stringent food safety protocols," it said.

"We take this matter very seriously.

"Once notified of this incident, we immediately activated our pest control specialists as well as professional cleaners to inspect and disinfect our premises as a priority.

"We are also conducting thorough investigations and improving measures in pest defence during post-operations hours.

"This is important as we already clean, disinfect and secure the kitchen on a daily basis, yet it’s clear we can do even better."
