Victims thought they were buying genuine watches at cheaper prices -- only to discover they are fakes

A 33-year-old man allegedly cheated customers between March and July by selling them counterfeit watches, which he claimed to be genuine, at a cheaper rate online.

The police received several reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by an online seller claiming to be selling genuine watches at a cheaper rate.

The victims eventually discovered that the watches are counterfeit.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on Oct 24 through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations.

The man will be charged in court today (Oct 26) with cheating.

He can be jailed up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
