Victim hands over $39k for overseas bird nest investment, only for scammer to go MIA

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Sunday (Aug 16) for his suspected involvement in an investment scam.

The police received a report on Saturday from a victim, who had purportedly been cheated by a scammer who promised high returns on an overseas investment involving the sale of bird nest.

"The victim invested and handed over $39,000 to the scammer, who later became uncontactable," said the police in a statement.

Through follow up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him.

The man will be charged in court on Tuesday with cheating, which is punishable by a jail term which may extend to 10 years and a fine.
