A 14-year-old girl sitting on a 11th-storey kitchen window ledge in Bedok was rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on a rainy Saturday afternoon (Aug 26).

Stomper Eelise shared photos of the teen at the window and a safety life air pack deployed by SCDF.

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it received a call for assistance at Block 109 Bedok North Road at about 1:50pm.

"Upon arrival, a person was seen sitting on a ledge at the 11th floor," said SCDF.

A safety life air pack was deployed as a precautionary measure before SCDF deployed nets and Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team rescuers rappelled from the flat above to rescue the girl.

When contacted by Stomp, the police said she was apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008 and was conscious when taken to the hospital.

Under the Act, the police have the duty to apprehend a person believed to be a danger to herself or others when the danger is reasonably suspected to be attributable to a mental disorder and take the person for psychiatric examination.
