A Stomper expressed shock after sharing a photo comparing before-and-after prices of menu items at Toast Box.
"See by how many per cent Toast Box has increased their prices because of the one per cent goods and services tax (GST) increase," he said.
He added that the bottom picture was 'before GST' and the top one was 'after'.
Taking the laksa as an example, the 'before' price was $7.50 and its 'after' price is $10, demonstrating an increase in price by 33.33 per cent.
In response to a Stomp query, Toast Box clarified that the photo of their menu shared by the Stomper dates back to June 2021.
The recent increase in GST from 7 per cent to 8 per cent only came into effect on Jan 1, 2023.
"We would like to point out that the photo of the menu shown below was dated back to June 2021," a Toast Box spokesman told Stomp.
"Since January 2020, Toast Box had enhanced our Asian Delight set meals with the inclusion of a slice of tea cake at selected stores, and this was gradually introduced across all our stores during 2020 and 2021.
"To provide added value to our customers, with effect from 20 December 2022, our Asian Delight set meals now include a choice of any sliced cake worth up to $2.20.
"Customers may choose from a range of popular options such as Banana cake, Pandan Chiffon and Honey Cake, not only limited to tea cakes.
"Customers are also free to opt out and will be charged at ala carte prices for their Asian Delight and beverage.
"We, at Toast Box, are committed to improving the quality of our products and will continue to strive to provide value to better serve our customers.
"Due to the recent rise in raw material prices, manpower and operating costs, we had to make the necessary adjustments in order not to compromise on our product quality and service standards.
"To enjoy extra savings, customers may also purchase our BreadTalk Rewards Kopi e-Voucher Package to enjoy their favourite Nanyang Kopi and Teh at discounted prices."
