Stomper Lim Chee Kiang was among one of the lucky commuters to ride on the new double-decker bus on Monday afternoon (Mar 13) and he sent Stomp photos and videos of his 'zhng-ed' out ride.

The double-decker bus, which started its trial service yesterday, comes with new features: two illuminated staircases, three doors, designated wheelchair spaces, passenger information display systems and individual USB charging ports.

It will ply the route of Tower Transit Singapore’s bus service 143 during a six-month pilot, reported The Straits Times. This is part of a study by the Land Transport Authority to evaluate its suitability for existing infrastructure, such as bus stops and interchanges.

The Stomper said:

“I boarded the bus at Jurong East bus interchange and alighted at Toa Payoh interchange.

“It was very cool to see the new features of the bus.

“Every seat had a charging port, but you have to remember to bring your own charging cable.

“Both staircases, located at the front and rear of the bus, also had lights illuminating the steps.

“They even had information display systems telling passengers what stop was approaching.”

The Stomper added that the bus was very crowded and passengers were busy taking photos of the bus.

A three-door single-decker bus will also be operated by SMRT from the second quarter of this year. LTA said that the service number for SMRT will be announced at a later date.
