Body of missing 12-year-old secondary school student found during search operation at Bedok Jetty

The body of the missing person was found during the search operation at Bedok Jetty in East Coast beach today (May 8).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook update that the body was found by its DART rescuers.

"Our condolences to the family," said the SCDF in the post.

According to a The Straits Times report, the boy is a student from Jurongville Secondary School, and is believed to have drowned while swimming with friends.

In response to Stomp's queries, a police spokeserson said that Singapore Police Force (SPF) was informed that a person went missing in the waters off Bedok Jetty.

"The body of a 12-year-old male teenager was found by SCDF officers and pronounced dead at scene," said the spokesperson.

"Police are investigating the unnatural death."

SCDF said in a Facebook post that it was alerted to the incident at 12.25pm today, and that the search is ongoing.

Stomper Kevin saw many SCDF and SPF vehicles near Bedok Jetty, and said the entire area had been cordoned off.

Police also said that the search is currently ongoing.
