An elderly woman in her seventies was discovered to have collapsed in her flat after neighbourly folks noticed her absence in coffeeshop nearby.
The incident happened on April 30, in the victim's unit at Block 801, Yishun Ring Road.
The elderly victim reportedly lives by herself in the unit although she has a son and a daughter, reports Shin Min Daily via Lianhe Zaobao.
Member of Parliament (MP) Lee Bee Wah shared the heartwarming story on her Facebook page.
She told reporters that the elderly woman had been discovered a week earlier in her flat, lying on the floor.
“She (The elderly woman) would visit a coffeeshop at Block 795A, Yishun Ring Road every day to have all her meals there.
“About a week ago, her friends suspected that something was amiss after they did not see her for two days.
“One of them informed members of the Residents’Committee (RC) .
“We went to check on her, and found that she had injured herself after falling down.”
A 53-year-old stall owner at the coffeeshop told reporters that the elderly women frequented the place and would stay there the entire day sometimes.
Said the stall owner:
“She (The elderly woman) had been frail for a while.
“She fainted in the coffeeshop a year back, and we had to call for an ambulance.”
She added that the elderly woman did not visit as often lately, and she would only see her twice or thrice a week.
She said that she had not seen the woman on the day of the incident and had told one of the elderly woman’s friends to check up on her.
The 77-year-old friend said that she had informed the RC after people at the coffeeshop reminded her of her friend’s disappearance.
“We knocked on the door of her unit but there was no response.
“We entered forcefully and found out that she had fallen and was unable to get up.
“We immediately called for an ambulance after.”
