Former president S R Nathan in critical condition at SGH after suffering a stroke

Former President S R Nathan is in critical condition after suffering a stroke on Sunday (July 31) morning, according to a statement by the Ministry of Communications & Information (MCI).

He is currently warded in the Intensive Care Unit at the Singapore General Hospital.

President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam said in a Facebook post that he and his wife Mary Tan were sad to hear about Mr Nathan's hospitalisation.

Dr Tan wrote: "Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family."

Mr Nathan is Singapore's sixth president. The 92-year-old was in office as head of state from 1999 to 2011.
