A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on West Coast Highway near Clementi Road yesterday morning – the third reported fatal road accident in less than two days.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the accident at 6.50am and dispatched an ambulance.

The 37-year-old rider was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The Straits Times understands he had been trying to avoid a fallen tree branch when the accident happened.

Photos of the accident's aftermath were uploaded on Facebook by taxi community group Connextaxi.

A blue tent was seen at the scene, with Traffic Police cordoning off two lanes on the three-lane highway.

The accident caused traffic congestion that stretched all the way to Penjuru Road, according to a tweet by the Land Transport Authority.

SBS Transit's bus service 175, which plies the highway on its way to the city, was also delayed.

E-BIKES

The West Coast Highway was the scene of another fatal accident on Oct 27, when three young men riding e-bikes were hit by a trailer truck.

Two died and the third survived.

Wednesday's incident is also the third reported fatal road accident in less than two days.

On Monday evening, a 47-year-old male pedestrian was hit by a car while crossing North Bridge Road.

Later that night, a 52-year-old biker was taken to hospital - where he died from his injuries – after colliding with a lorry at Jalan Buroh.
