7 arrested after shouting gang-related slogans during funeral: Video shows them shouting '369' near Kim Tian Rd

Seven men aged between 27 and 50 have been arrested for their involvement in gang-related activities.

An online video showed several men shouting gang-related slogans during a funeral procession along Jalan Bukit Merah, the police said in a news release on Saturday (March 4).

The 49sec clip, posted on Thursday (March 2), shows men shouting gang slogan "Sah Lak Kau" - or "369" in Hokkien - near Kim Tian Road.

The clip, shared on Facebook, has garnered more than 58,000 views.

Some reports had speculated that the funeral procession was for a member of the 369 gang.

Shin Min Daily News said in a report on Saturday (March 4) that the funeral procession was for a 55-year-old warehouse assistant nicknamed Guni.

He died from an asthma attack on Jan 31 this year.

His wife, a 48-year-old security supervisor, told Shin Min that she found out that her husband may have been involved in gang activities when he was younger only when she saw the video a month after he died.

She said her husband did not have tattoos on his body, and that she had never heard of his involvement in any secret society activities.

She knew only that he had a lot of friends and was surprised to see so many people turn up at his funeral procession.

After extensive investigations, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) established the identities of the people in the video.

Seven men were arrested in simultaneous raids at various locations islandwide early Friday (March 3) morning.

Investigations against all suspects are ongoing.

The police said in their release that they take "a stern view of gang-related activities and will continue with our tough enforcement efforts and come down hard on those who choose to be associated with gangs".
