Shanmugam shares letter between S'pore's founding fathers suggesting texts for pledge

To commemorate the National Day, Mr K Shanmugam shared a letter of correspondence between Singapore's founding fathers Mr S Rajaratnam and Mr Ong Pang Boon.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Mr Shanmugam shared with the public the letter that contains suggestions for the text in the Singapore Pledge.

The letter was dated Feb 18, 1966, and was addressed to Mr Ong.

An old letter between two of our founding fathers: Mr S Rajaratnam to Mr Ong Pang Boon, suggesting text for our pledge.

The letter starts with an apology for "the delay in replying to your letter of 2nd February".

The text of the pledge that was suggested is slightly different from our current pledge, but netizens were glad to learn the formulation of it nevertheless.
