A taxi driver was hit in the face by a passenger over cab fare change in the Boat Quay area on Nov 14 at about 8.34pm.

A Stomper, who was having drinks at The Mask Restaurant along Circular Road, had captured a video of the incident.

He said: "The fight took place when the driver dropped the passenger off. The driver alighted the taxi and started shouting at the passenger."

Stomp understands that the cab fare the passenger was supposed to pay was slightly over $8.

He gave the driver a $10 note and received just over $1 back as change.

When he told the driver he thought he was supposed to receive $2 back, the driver allegedly replied and said: "You cannot see ah, only $1 plus."

The passenger allegedly thought this was rude and both of them stepped out of the vehicle and the argument escalated.

In response to a Stomp query, the police said: "On Nov 14 at 8.34pm, the police were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt at Upper Circular Road."

In the video, the driver, who is in a collared shirt with stripes, throws a punch at the passenger and misses.

The passenger dodges the hit and retaliates by hitting the driver, who falls back against his taxi.

In the background, a woman can be heard shouting at the two men: "Guys, it's not worth it. Don't do that!"

A man can also be heard in the background exclaiming: "Someone call the police!"

At this point, the driver stands back up and another man in a grey shirt tries to mitigate the situation.

The man in the background can be heard again saying: "He's a taxi driver."

Followed by the woman saying: "Yeah, just don't f***ing do it."

The man asks the woman about what happened.

She replies and says: "He said something like, he's not paying me enough."

Stomp understands that the passenger sustained a one centimetre long cut under his eye.
