Bystanders had gathered to watch.

An elderly woman on the window ledge outside a fourth-storey HDB unit was saved by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Monday (Jan 9).

Videos online show a safety life air pack below the woman before the rescue attempt. After she was brought to safety to applause and cheers from the bystanders, someone can be heard shouting, "Thank you!"

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it received a call for assistance at Block 62B Lorong 4 Toa Payoh at 4.50pm.

"Upon SCDF's arrival, a person was seen on a ledge at level 4. SCDF deployed a safety life air pack as a precautionary measure.

"SCDF deployed nets and DART rescuers rappelled from the unit above to rescue the person," said SCDF.

When contacted by Stomp, the police said they received a call for assistance at 4.45pm.

"A 77-year-old woman was subsequently apprehended under Section 7(1) of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008. No injuries were reported," said police, adding that investigations are ongoing.
