Body of 78-year-old man retrieved from Singapore River near The Fullerton Bay Hotel

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) retrieved the body of a man who drowned in the Singapore River near The Fullerton Bay Hotel today (Jun 6) at 4.30pm.

Earlier, the police were seen cordoning off the area at around 3.30pm.

Stomper Timothy was nearby when he noticed a commotion.

"I saw a few fire engines and SCDF officers running towards the river.

"There were some security guards yelling to their friends as well."

Stomper Catherine shared photos from the scene as well.

In response to Stomp's media queries, a police spokesperson said:

"On 6 Jun 2017 at 3.13pm, the police were alerted to a case of unnatural death at 80 Collyer Quay.

"A 78-year-old man was found motionless in the water and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

"Police investigations are ongoing"

An SCDF spokesperson said that officers from the SCDF Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team conducted an underwater search and retrieved the body at around 4.30pm.
