Samsung has made a police report after a voice recording about an alleged robber visiting residents of HDB flats in a Samsung outfit started circulating on WhatsApp.

Stomp was alerted to the recording on Jul 22 by Stomper Bosco, who hopes that it can be verified.

In the 20-second clip, a woman can be heard explaining that a man in a Samsung outfit will show up at HDB flats asking residents if they have Samsung washing machines.

According to her, he would then rob their flats. In the later part of the recording, she said that this has happened before in Sengkang. That claim however, cannot be verified.

In response to a Stomp query, Samsung has said that the allegations are unconfirmed and they have made a police report.

Said a spokesperson:

“Samsung takes such allegations seriously. We do not condone any misconduct from our employees nor any misrepresentation of our brand.

"The allegations are unconfirmed and there is insufficient information on the alleged robbery for Samsung to look into the matter.

"We have since made a police report and we urge members of the public to share any information on such misbehaviour by contacting us at 1800-SAMSUNG (7267864) so that we may follow up with the authorities.

"Customer service is our priority. Samsung is offering a one-time complimentary cleaning service to all Samsung washing machine customers in appreciation of their support.

"Our service engineers carrying out the cleaning service wear a Samsung uniform and carry a Samsung identification.

"Customers can also contact us at 1800-SAMSUNG to verify the identity of our service engineers.”
