A centralised rubbish chute at Block 912 Hougang Street 91 caught fire in the wee hours of Saturday (Jan 19).

Stomper Elaine said she was about to go to bed at around 2.45am when she heard the fire alarm go off.

"Awhile later, I saw fire engines below my block," she told Stomp.

"The fire was put out within minutes."

Responding to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at 2.31am.

The fire was extinguished using a hose reel and there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
