National water agency PUB is investigating an incident in which two youths were seen fishing illegally at the boardwalk in front of Marina Bay Sands on early Thursday morning (May 7).

Stomper Anonymous witnessed the duo fishing at the boardwalk at around 5am on Vesak Day.

Anonymous, who took a video of the incident, said: "I saw them fishing despite it being the circuit breaker period and they were still there at around 7am. I believe they cycled here.

"I reported the incident via the OneService app too."

Responding to queries, PUB said it is investigating the incident.

PUB told Stomp: "Fishing is illegal at the boardwalk as the waters form part of Marina Reservoir.

"There are prominent signs along the boardwalk to inform the public of this and CCTVs are installed to enhance surveillance."

Offenders caught fishing at no-fishing areas and/or using live bait at reservoirs can be fined up to $3,000.

PUB also noted that all designated fishing areas at its reservoirs are currently closed during this circuit breaker period.

It added: "To report any illegal fishing activities, or if anyone has information on the two youths, please call 1800-CALL-PUB so that we can take this opportunity to educate them on responsible fishing and the circuit breaker safety measures."
