Twelve motorcycles were impounded and 56 summons were issued after a large group of motorcyclists had gathered at the junction of Punggol Road and Punggol Central in the early hours of Sunday morning (Mar 24), the police told Stomp in response to a query.

Stomper Farhan had alerted Stomp to the congregation and shared videos that were circulating online of the riders.

In one video posted on Instagram Stories by user @ceceldieno, dozens of the riders are seen congregating at a Shell petrol station, revving their engines and sounding their horns.

In response to a Stomp media query, the police said they were alerted to the large group of motorcyclists congregating at about 12.30am.

"Twelve motorcycles were impounded for suspected illegal modifications and 56 summons were issued for traffic and vehicular offences," a spokesman said.

Stomp understands that the gathering was organised by a group of local motorcycle enthusiasts called "kapcaisinga".

The group addressed criticisms from a netizen who was furious that because of their "stupidity", other "innocent" riders were stopped and checked by the police too.

In the post, the netizen wrote, "You think it's cool to make noise at the Shell station and then make life difficult for others.

"This is the first time I've seen a ride been halted because the organisers left their brains at home."

He ends the post with a "F**k you!".

The organisers replied to the post and apologised to those who were not involved. It added that the netizen could "talk nicely" and asked him to try organising a mass ride in the future.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning (Mar 27), @kapcaisinga posted a longer apology note on their Instagram Stories.

Translation: Greetings to all our friends. "We from KapchaiSinga would like to humbly apologise to all parties, both directly and indirectly, affected by the recent event. With this, we truly hope that everyone can put to rest all talk of the incident. May we meet again in the future, but until then we at KapchaiSinga are taking a step back to reflect on this situation."
