7 people under investigation for illegal horse betting activities at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1

Six men and one woman, aged between 37 and 76, are being investigated for their suspected involvement in illegal horse betting activities, said police.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted an enforcement operation against illegal gambling activities along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 on Saturday (Nov 19).

During the operation, cash amounting to more than $6,000 and gambling-related paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the seven are believed to be involved in various roles, such as illegal bookmakers, runners as well as punters. Investigations against the seven are ongoing.

Any person who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $200,000 and imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

Any person who gambles with an unlawful gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
