A passenger on SBS Transit bus service 196 saw a cockroach crawling on a back seat on Wednesday (Aug 17).

Sharing a photo of his six-legged travelling companion, Stomper Jared said he spotted the insect on the bus travelling along Mountbatten Road towards the city.

"Some other buses got flies and mosquitos inside. It is time that SBS Transit look into bus cleanliness," said the Stomper.

In response to a Stomp query, Mrs Grace Wu, Vice President (Special Grade), Customer Experience and Communications, SBS Transit said: "As part of our cleaning regime, our buses are fumigated once every quarter.

"For the bus in question, we have conducted a thorough inspection including removing the seats and found no cockroaches at all. Nevertheless, it has been sent for fumigation again and the bus is thoroughly cleaned.

"We would like to take this opportunity to seek the cooperation of our commuters to help keep our buses clean by not eating, drinking or littering on board to contribute to a pleasant ride for all."

Earlier, another Stomper reported an SBS Transit bus "having cleanliness issues: dusty interior, window ledge and seats filled with stains". The company apologised "that the bus in question did not pass muster where cleanliness is concerned".
