Part of CTE tunnel closes after tree falls onto car, motorists left stranded

A tree fell onto a car near a tunnel along the Central Expressway (CTE) towards the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Wednesday morning (July 19).

Several Stompers alerted Stomp to the incident and shared videos and photos of a car underneath a tree amidst heavy rain.

The incident caused part of the CTE tunnel to be closed, leaving motorists stranded.

Stomp understands the car was damaged and there were no casualties.

At 9.18am, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) tweeted that there was an accident and that the CTE tunnel was closed before the Orchard Road exit.

At 9.38am, LTA said that there was congestion until the Yio Chu Kang Road exit and the tunnel was still closed before the Orchard Road exit.

In its latest update regarding the incident at 11.32am, LTA said there was congestion until the Moulmein Road exit and motorists were advised to avoid lane 3.
