A young nurse wanted to do her part for the community this Chinese New Year by distributing festive care packs.

Emily Yap, a nurse at Alexandra Hospital rallied her family, friends and neighbours to help distribute 100 festive care packs to the elderly and families in need.

Her mother, Audrey Yap, told Stomp: "It is Emily's way to emotionally connect and care for the elderly who live alone and families who need a little more care and support during these difficult times."

She added that the care packs were filled with essential groceries and festive goodies sponsored by Emily and donors such as the Temasek Foundation.

The 23-year-old nurse said: "When we look out for each other, it can change lives."

A firm believer in giving back, Emily spent Chinese New Year in 2022 bringing festive cheer to migrant workers.

She also used her household's $100 Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers to buy bread for eldercare residents.
