Motorcyclist dies on his birthday after skidding along TPE while ferrying colleague

A joyous occasion turned into a tragedy after a man died on his birthday in an accident while sending his colleague home.

The incident happened along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE) on Sept 3, 2017, at around 12am.

Both the 37-year-old man and his colleague, 43, were killed when the motorcycle they were on skidded out of control and crashed.

They sustained head traumas and chest injuries.

The man is survived by two children and a widow, 29.

The widow told Shin Min Daily News that they had celebrated at his aunt's house earlier that night, before he left for a prawning facility in Punggol at around 10pm, to celebrate with his friends and colleagues.

“According to what I know, he was supposedly sending home a female colleague back to her home in Ang Mo Kio.”

She revealed that she did not know said colleague personally, nor had her husband mentioned her before.

The widow added that they had originally intended to bring his mother and their children out for a meal.

In response to media queries, a spokesman for the police has confirmed the incident and said that both the victims were conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to their injuries after that.

Police investigations are ongoing.
