Lovers or enemies?

Stomper Nawal Gupta was captivated by the sight of two monitor lizards 'hugging' at Alexandra Park Connector near Tanglin Road on Sunday (Feb 12) at about 8.40am.

"I saw this amazing beauty during my morning walk and thought it's interesting to share," the Stomper said.

"With Valentine's Day around the corner, I guess the monitor lizards are too celebrating the same on a Sunday morning."

Nawal, who has been a resident in the area for the past eight years, added that he does come across monitor lizards and otters at the park connector at times.

Although it would be nice to believe the monitor lizards were caught in a lovers' embrace, they were most likely wrestling.

The reptiles are known to wrestle with one another in competition over food, territory or potential mates.

Such wrestling matches can last for up to 45 minutes.
