Not all heroes wear capes.

Some wear backpacks.

A man with a backpack was caught on camera fighting a car fire near Lau Pa Sat on Thursday morning (Nov 17).

He was not the only hero.

Sharing a video of the incident, Stomper Nuraini said: "Kudos to an office worker who rushed forward to help douse the flames with a fire extinguisher to assist the firemen who had just arrived.

"It was scary as there was a possibility of it exploding thereafter."

Several videos circulated online showing the Mercedes-Benz in flames at the junction of Raffles Quay and Cross Road during morning rush hour with vehicles and pedestrians going around the burning car.

A man wearing a white shirt and a black backpack can be seen with other men trying to put out the fire with extinguishers as police officers directed traffic.

Two Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire engines can also be seen arriving at the scene.

Stomper Gary said: "Kudos to our SCDF. I have a huge admiration for SCDF’s dedication to duty and how efficient they were."

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to a fire near 18 Raffles Quay at about 8.45am.

"The fire involved the engine compartment of a car. SCDF extinguished the fire using a water jet," said SCDF.

It added that there were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
