Man with scissors arrested after injuring 2 people in Jurong East, teen ran and called police

A 36-year-old suspect was arrested after he allegedly punched a man and hit another with scissors on New Year's Eve.

Police said they received calls about a man injuring two others near Block 372 Jurong East Avenue 1 at about 5pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect approached a 44-year-old man near Block 337 Jurong East Avenue 1 and punched him several times.

The suspect then approached another man, 47, near Block 339 Jurong East Avenue 1 and hit him on his right shoulder from the rear with a pair of scissors.

The suspect then approached a teenager, 15, who managed to run off and call the police. The teen did not report any injuries.

The first victim sustained injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital while the second was conscious when taken to the hospital.

All three victims are unknown to the suspect.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Jurong East Avenue 1 within three hours of the report.

A pair of scissors which was purportedly used during the incident was seized. Police investigations are ongoing.

The suspect will be charged in court on Jan 2 with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, which carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments.

A court order will be sought for the suspect to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health.
