Man who intentionally left grenade-shaped object at Clarke Quay MRT Station in 2017 to be charged

A 58-year-old man carried an unattended bag with a grey grenade-shaped object attached to the side of it at Clarke Quay MRT Station on Sep 16, 2017, at about 5pm.

Officers from the Central Police Division Public Transport Security Command established the identity of the man through ground enquiries and arrested him on Sep 17, 2017.

The man is believed to have intentionally left the bag at the station.

He will be charged in court today (Oct 24) under Regulation 8(2)(a) of the United Nations (Anti-Terrorism Measures) Regulations, read with Section 5(1)(a) of the United Nations Act Chapter 339.

Anyone convicted under the Regulations, may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, or with a fine not exceeding $500,000, or with both.
